Top rankings on Google ー are the pinnacle of online business success.

According to the analysis by Backlinko , the first result in Google SERP gets 31.7% of all clicks, while the results on the second page get only 0.78% of clicks.

I have spoken to many business owners and managers ー newbies and veterans ー who are obsessed with revealing the secrets of how to improve Google rankings without being punished by the system.

I wish I could say that there is a magic button that will put your site first, no matter the circumstances.

In reality, this goal requires resourcefulness, dedication, perseverance, and creativity. This happened due to the constantly changing algorithm of Google.

There is no magic here. There are steps you can take to get to the top of the SERP.

I learned this the hard way. Fortunately, this is not necessary.

I'll go back to the basics of internal SEO to help you understand the new SEO rules, learn how to optimize your site for humans and search engine spiders, and master internal and external SEO optimization.

Here are the steps I'll cover in this tutorial:

Step # 1. Get to know the Google algorithm

Step # 2. Rate your current position on Google

Step # 3: Track and Measure the Right SEO Metrics

Step # 4. Make sure your site is mobile optimized (and ready for the Google Mobile-First algorithm)

Step # 5. Find and fix current Google penalties

Step # 6: Improve Your Google Ranking with Keyword Analysis

Step # 7: Improve Your Google Ranking with Internal SEO Optimization

Step # 8: Use Keywords to Create Better Content

Step # 9. Build links correctly

Step # 1. Get to know the Google algorithm
I could jump straight to actionable SEO strategies that you can use on your site right now.

But I want to set you up for long-term success so that you don't get downgraded every time an update comes out.

Google executives such as Gary Iles and John Mueller confirm that Google's algorithm is constantly changing, although most of these changes are not publicly reported.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. John Mueller: Yes, we change the algorithm almost daily.

Moz estimates that between 500 and 600 changes are made to Google's algorithm per year !

Although Google previously published announcements of major updates, the exact inner workings of the algorithm are still unknown. Most of the information is the speculation of industry professionals. best seo expert in Bangladesh

After all, if everyone knew exactly how to rank # 1 without trick penalties or gray SEO strategies, Google would not be able to rank only the best results. Anyone could have worked their way up without effort.

This would not only make it difficult for honest people like you and me to succeed, but it would seriously undermine Google's mission:

"Google's mission is to organize all the information in the world and make it accessible and useful to everyone."

The most reliable information we know about Google's algorithm comes in the form of information about major updates, such as:

Mobile-first Updateー Mobile Targeting (July 2019): Googlebot now looks at all sites like a smartphone, prioritizing themes that work well on mobile.
Mobile Responsiveness Update (April 2015): Preferring sites with mobile versions and creating conditions for future penalties if sites do not comply.
Dove (July 2014): Worked on integrating local search results such as Google Maps.
Hummingbird (Aug 2013): Aims at understanding the context and purpose of the user's search, not just the individual words that they enter.
Penguin (April 2012): Targets spammers and sites buying unnatural links to improve rankings.
Not to mention Panda , an EMD update (for exact match domain names) and an update that removes satellite sites from the index. There's also the Phantom update that came out in May 2013 and is believed to have been updated four times, but this has never been confirmed by Google.

How do you track Google updates?

There are some great resources that can help. Moz's Google Algorithm Changelog is a great database that organizes updates chronologically. Also visit Google Search Center .

Now that we've covered the basics of the algorithm, let's move on to the practical strategies I mentioned earlier.

Step # 2. Rate your current position on Google
To rank higher on Google, you need to know where you are. This applies even to new sites. Fortunately, there are several tools that can help you.

Use Ubersuggest to check your site's keyword rankings

If you've added specific keywords to the text of your page, use my Ubersuggest tool to get an estimate of your Google rankings.

Log in to your account, then use the "Traffic Overview" under the competitor report. Enter your domain and you'll see a list of the keywords you rank for, your most popular pages, and an overview of SEO Key Rankings.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
Scroll down to see the SEO Keywords chart showing where you rank for top keywords.

Check site speed

Next, it's important to check your site's loading speed, as it's still an important ranking factor in Google.

If your site is slow, you have little chance of ranking high. It will also affect your ability to convert and sell to new customers.

When the page load time on the Walmart website increased from one to four seconds, there was a sharp drop in conversions.

If this happens, it doesn't matter what kind of internal SEO optimization you have, meta descriptions or title tags. The search algorithm will punish you, even if you are a giant like Walmart.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. Conversion rate versus site load time found that when a website's load time increased from 1 second to 4 seconds, conversions plummeted. And for every second that website load time decreased, they saw a 2% increase in conversions.

This is why it is so important to do a site speed test to figure out how to improve your Google rankings. There are dozens of tools to help you with this. Some of my favorites:

Google PageSpeed Insights
YSlow Browser Extension (for Yahoo)
Pingdom site speed test
Here's how to check page content load speed using Pingdom.

Go to and enter your url. Select the location from which you want to run the test and click "Start Test".

The Quick Sprout site has a performance score of 81. If your site scores more than 50 points, this is a good start.

If you get a score of less than 50, your page content is loading very slowly and you need to work on increasing the speed.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
Also look at the page load time.

The Quick Sprout scores well ー 1.89 seconds. Aim for a speed of less than 2 seconds for a really fast site and less than 1 second for mobile devices.

Remember that loading times longer than a few seconds can result in the loss of a significant amount of website traffic.

Check site status

After reviewing search engine rankings for keywords and site speed, assess the overall health of the site before starting optimization. Have you seen a sudden drop in organic traffic after months or years of steady levels?

Are you wondering if Google has removed (or blocked) your site from the index?

There are many great tools to help you put together this puzzle. Try MxToolBox the Domain Health the Report , to check the main problems in five categories: general problems of the site, black list, mail server, web server and DNS.

You will see a graph showing site traffic relative to major update launches. This comparison takes you one step closer to understanding whether the update affected your site.

To check for a Google penalty, log into the Google Search Console and look for the Security Issues and Manual Actions report. It tells you if Google took action against your site manually.

In fig. Manual Action => No Problem

Please Note: This report will show that the reviewer has determined that your site is in violation of Google's quality guidelines. It will not show that the Google algorithm update has imposed a penalty on your site.

If your site has been manually fined, fix the issue (the Google fine recovery guide might help) and then submit a re-review request to Google.

Step # 3: Track and Measure the Right SEO Metrics
It's time to track some of your site's critical metrics to figure out what other factors you need to improve. Here are the most important metrics to evaluate.

Organic traffic

It's important to know how visitors find your site through Google. In the past, organic search has attracted the majority of visitors by suppressing non-organic channels like PPC and social media.

Social media, email, and advertising are often the leaders in driving organic traffic today, but this is highly niche-driven.

To find out how many visitors are visiting your site, sign in to your Google Analytics account and view the Acquisition Channel report.

Organic traffic conversions

In addition to analyzing search traffic, it is worth paying attention to the keywords that drive traffic to your website. It's harder to see than it used to be, but still possible.

One way to find them is with a simple tool called SERP Scan . I use it to identify keywords that drive natural conversions for my site.

SERP Scan will show you the keywords that have been driving organic traffic to your site in the last 12 months. You will also see a chart of your keywords for internal SEO optimization.

This tool makes it easy to get the data you need from Google Analytics and understand the big picture regarding keywords on your site. But you still need more information.

Keyword Ranking for Commercial Queries

The number one mistake in keyword analysis is not spending enough time on commercial keywords.

Commercial keywords generate revenue. To improve your search engine position and make money, you need to understand the difference between commercial and informational keywords.

If all of your keywords are informational, you will still be driving organic traffic, but it can be difficult to convert those visitors into buyers or people who repost on social media.

The reason is that visitors who search for informational key phrases such as:

How to get rid of acne with home remedies
How to install WordPress
Make money on the Internet without investment
Download the e-book for free
Top 10 free tools for rewriting articles
If visitors are not in the mood to buy, they want you to speak their language ー for free. These words can drive traffic, and a solid sales funnel can attract some of these people, but not many.

In contrast, there are people using purchase keywords that show the intent of the user, for example:

Best Acne Remedies
Top 10 hosting providers
Web Designers in New York
These people are probably looking for a solution that they can buy.

If you're in the e-commerce business, you hopefully already know that commercial keyword phrases tend to convert well.

Keys that contain the following words as a prefix (before) or suffix (after) the rest of the passphrase tend to convert well:

Special offer
To order
Earlier, I talked about keywords that drive organic traffic to you. They should also be used in meta descriptions and for internal SEO optimization (more on that later).

Here's another example. Do you notice the difference between information and commercial keys?

Set up your SEO dashboard to track these metrics

I recommend that you set up your SEO dashboard so that you can track all the important metrics at any time.

Here's how to set it up in Google Analytics . Tools like SEMRush also make it easy to track SEO activity using the built-in dashboard, but you have to pay for this tool.

If you have the money for SEO tools, go for it. However, if you're on a tight budget, Google Analytics can help.

In addition to creating dashboards in Google Analytics, you can get advanced keyword data by connecting your Google Search Console to Google Analytics. Here's a complete guide on how to do it.

Step # 4. Make sure your site is mobile optimized (and ready for the Google Mobile-First algorithm)
More than half of all tr and Fick's Web site accounted for mobile devices. This means that if you want to rank high, your site must perform well on mobile devices.

While some changes to the algorithm remain unclear, Google leaves no room for speculation when it comes to mobile devices. On January 10, 2017, the following information appeared on the Google Webmaster Blog:

"Starting today, pages whose content is not easy to grasp when navigating from mobile search results cannot rank high."

Then in 2020, Google switched to " prioritizing mobile site indexing ," which means Google treats sites like a mobile device. If the site is difficult to navigate, this will affect the rankings.

Fortunately, it's pretty easy to see your situation. The Google Mobile-Friendly Test is a quick way to determine if your site is mobile friendly or on its way to Penaltyville.

Just enter the URL and click "RUN TEST".

As a result, you will receive a clear answer "yes or no" along with a list of problems encountered with page loading. This way you can fix and optimize everything to keep your mobile site running smoothly.

You will be able to see page loading issues such as redirect errors and pages where robots.txt blocked the page from being crawled by Googlebot.

The Google Search Console also has a report on the ease of use with mobile devices , which contains a list of problems.

Tips for Optimizing Your Site for Mobile Devices

If your site isn't mobile optimized, add this to the top of your to-do list.

You can quickly fix it with the help of these services, ka to Mobify or Duda Mobile .
If your site is built on a popular CMS like WordPress or Wix, most of their themes are mobile friendly. You may need to update your site to the latest version to take advantage of these features.
Make sure your calls to action and form fields use large, clickable buttons.
Do not use pop-up windows that cannot be closed. Yes, they improve conversions, but they can annoy users.

For more information on SEO, check out Google's tips on how to improve site rankings on mobile devices .

Mobile and Local SEO

There is a strong connection between mobile and local search. Google serves narrow local search, connecting consumers and businesses as smoothly and quickly as possible.

That's why you need to make sure your Google My Business profile is up-to- date and complete.

These profiles can be a deciding factor for someone looking for a business in your area, so check in and update your business as soon as possible if you haven't. This also applies to other local business listing sites like Yelp, Facebook, Better Business Bureau, etc.

Step # 5. Find and fix current Google penalties
Now that you are aware of your position in the search and have set up tracking of the most important metrics, it's time to study the site in detail and fix the current penalties.

This is a fundamental action. There is no point in promoting or linking to an unhealthy site. So, before we dive into the topic, I want to talk about a few things that can lead to a Google penalty.

Site link building has changed

Spam links have been the holy grail for increasing website traffic. This example from Moz shows how one site used spam link schemes to generate inbound links.

In fig. Link types

Comments ー 43.35% Unknown source ー 36.15% Sidebar ー 11.10% Articles ー 6.12% Profile (forum, etc.) 1.79% Footer ー 0.53% Others ー 0.51 % Information about the author ー 0.45%

Worst of all, this has worked before. But those days are long gone.

Bad links really hurt the site. Use them and sooner or later you can expect a Google penalty.

This is why it is so important to think about how you create links to your site.

As Matt Cutts said, "Links shouldn't LOOK natural, they should BE natural."

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
This idea remains true today.

Here's how to do it. Start by finding and removing malicious links.

Analyze links

First, analyze the inbound links to your site . To do this, you can use several link analysis tools:

Moz Link Explorer
Let me walk you through link analysis with SEOprofiler.

Sign up for a free account and go to Link Profiler → Backlinks. For example, let's take

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. Links to

Active links ー 171089; unique active links ー 14922; links to the main page ー 88593; links with the nofollow tag 10.2%; sphere ー finance; link impact score ー 99%; last update ー 22 May, subdomains ー 5.

The results show the most important elements to look out for when analyzing site links:

Unique Active Links : The number of links that directly or indirectly affect Google rankings. "Unique" means the links are from different IP addresses. This is one way to identify a natural link. These links have been indexed by Google in the past 90 days.
Nofollow Links : Problogger has 10.2% of nofollow links, which equates to 1522 out of 14,922 links to the site. Google introduced the rel = "nofollow" tag in 2005 to prevent spam comments on blogs from artificially affecting rankings. After the release of the Penguin update, it became necessary to diversify the link profile. And, as Matt Cutts mentioned, you need a mix of dofollow links (which pass link power to search engines) and nofollow links (which do not pass link power).
Scope : If you've read Problogger's content, you might think the site's niche is "blogging" or "internet marketing". But if you look at the analysis, it turns out that this is a media site. Knowing the scope will help you identify relevant links that will improve the link profile to your site in the search engine used by the search engine.
Link Impact Score : Shows how links from a site affect the ranking of inbound pages in search engines. The higher the score, the better. As a very popular and influential site, Problogger has a whopping 99% rating! Check your site and see what your metric is.
Anchor Link Text : Click on a link in the menu on the left to access the anchor text (anchor text is the text that becomes your link and points to the page) that leads to your site. Google has released a Penguin update to prevent site owners from manipulating search results with exact match anchor text. If you don't want to be under the threat of search algorithm penalties, diversify your anchor text.
How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
It's also important to know which links are harming your site so you can remove them. Malicious links include the following:

Coming from sites PR-n / a or PR 0
These are mainly cross-links
Come from domains with low traffic
Coming from sites with the same IP class address
Coming from web pages with a lot of external links
There are many free tools out there to help you spot bad links. Two tools I've tried: Monitor Backlinks and Linkquidator .

Remember to export the list of malicious links as soon as you find them. This way you can come back to them later.

Clean up your link profile to avoid being penalized by Google

This is the next step in cleaning up your link profile, and there are two ways to do it.

1. Request manual deletion of the link. Go to the site where the bad / unnatural links are coming from and contact the site owner. Ask him to remove the link (the best option) or add a nofollow tag to it.

If you've outsourced link building in the past, you can contact the person who posted the links for you and ask them to remove them. Here's an excerpt from an article on Search Engine World to show how it works:

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. Return to source

The first step is to contact the company or freelancer you hired. If this is not you, but a predecessor or a company with which you entered into a contract, then find the original agreement. If you have to, trace the path of the money.

If you have ordered a website link building service, the person who sold it to you should be your first contact. If you bought links in bulk, chances are that the process was automated, and hopefully any simple method that allows you to link to you on a thousand sites overnight will also help you. If the performer does not have an automated system, then he probably has a network of assistants to whom he can send a message.

The bottom line is, if you didn't get these links yourself, start by contacting the person who got them. At best, they can turn what can be a long, drawn-out burden into a conversation with a single point of contact. If you can make it that easy, consider yourself lucky and think very carefully who will help you to get links in the future.

In this case, do not ask the site owner to remove your links. He may think you are a spammer and ignore you. Follow the river in Mandership of the journal Search Engine Journal, to learn how best to contact the webmasters about removing references.

2. Use a tool the Google Disavow Links (renunciation of links to your site). If you are unable to remove harmful links, your only option is to use Google's own Disavow Links tool .

While it is best to manually remove the link, this is the second good option.

The opt-out tool is part of Google Search Console. When you open Search Console, you will see a list of all your sites.

Go to the site for which you want to reject links. Here's what you'll see:

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. Disclaimer of Site Links This feature is intended for advanced users, use it with caution. If you use it incorrectly, it can potentially harm your site's position in Google search results. We recommend that you only reject links that you think are spammy, i.e. artificially created or of low quality, and if you are sure that these links are causing problems.

When you check for unnatural links to a site, you have the option to export the links found. If you did, download the file and click Finish.

Like you, Google cannot remove links because the system does not have access to the referring sites.

However, the tool signals Google to stop transmitting the link weight of those links to your page.

3. Diversify the anchor text . Anchor text can play a key role in improving or completely destroying your search rankings. As I mentioned earlier, if you want a natural link profile, you need to diversify your anchor text.

Keep these types in mind when circulating text:

Exact match : Does the anchor text exactly match the keyword you're targeting? e.g. hybrid bikes
Phrase : is there a keyword in the anchor text? like how to find the best wireless headsets
URL : This is a simple link creation with a full URL like
Brand name : Here you use the brand name for the anchor text, which makes the text look natural, like Apple AirPods .
Branded Keyword : This is where you combine the anchor text with your site's keyword, like getting started on content marketing.
Let's say your website sells blue denim jeans. If the domain name is ー, how do you add variety to the anchor text?

If you need to provide three links from a specific site, this link profile is ideal:

Anchor Text 1: Landing Page: Home
Anchor text 2: online denim jeans reviewsー landing page: the page you reviewed the product on
Anchor text 3: reviews www.bluedenimjeans.comー landing page: your store
4. Avoid over-optimization : Over-use of anchor texts can lead to over-optimization and penalties. Jeff Kenyon suggests the percentage below :

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In fig. Detailed distribution of anchor text

Clockwise: 18% ー exact match, 16% ー phrase, 31% ー brand, 18% ー URL, 17% ー other

To avoid over-optimizing your anchor text, follow these two guidelines:

Avoid overusing the anchor text keyword . If you want to link to internal pages on a topic such as "link building strategies", do not use the same keyword phrase as your anchor text. Instead, use something like "learn more about link building" or a combination of a general and specific keyword. Variety is the key to success.
Avoid irrelevant links . What is the point of linking to a dog training site and using “the best golf trainer” as an anchor? This will not improve your Google rankings and may in fact result in a fine.
Step # 6: Improve Your Google Ranking with Keyword Analysis
Once you've gotten rid of the unnatural links, it's time to improve your internal SEO.

One of the most important elements of an effective inbound marketing strategy is keyword research. You won't get very far if you don't understand how it works.

Find out how your audience finds your site

To be effective, you need to pinpoint the keywords that your target audience uses to find your site. This is how it works.

Step # 1: Go to Ubersuggest , enter a keyword and hit Search .

Step # 2. Click on Keyword Ideas .

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
Step # 3. Review the keywords and the number of searches per month.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
Here's how it will help you.

When you analyze keywords, you get information from a reliable source about your target audience, what they want to know and how.

For example, when someone searches for “html5 tutorials for beginners,” you know that they are a beginner looking for a solution and want content to help them understand the topic.

This will help you write headlines and content that will rank well in Google search results.

It is helpful to present customer avatars and the customer lifecycle from your target audience so that you understand what motivates them. Then, post relevant content to help you rank on Google.

Alexa can help determine audience demographics, as in the example below for Upworthy.

Remember I mentioned commercial and informational keywords?

When you do keyword analysis, you can easily see if users are just looking for information or ready to buy.

This is called user intent, and this is what it looks like for the keyword analysis example used earlier.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In this example, free web design is an example of an informational keyword. Free Web Design Coursesー This is an example of a commercial keyword.

To improve your site's Google rankings, you need both informational and commercial keywords in the text on the page. Your job is to educate, inform, inspire and generate interest before recommending a product.

Informational keywords can be used to build a subscription base and educate potential customers before offering a product for sale.

Also, don't ignore long key phrases and questions.

The rise of voice search and the new BERT search algorithm mean long key phrases are more important than ever before.

Track your competitors' keywords

If your competitors are ahead of you in Google search results, it's time to spy on them.

If they like the search algorithm, you can study and copy their strategies.

I like to use Google Keyword Planner for this because it gives an accurate estimate of competitors' keywords.

Let's say your niche is camping knives. One reputable blog that you can follow is

On the Ubersuggest homepage, instead of entering your primary keyword, simply enter your competitor's URL in the landing page form and hit the search button.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
Then scroll down the page until you see SEO Keywords. You will see the keywords your competitor is targeting.

How to improve your site's position in Google rankings without being fined
In addition to keywords, data includes:

Number of Searches: The number of searches for a keyword during the month.
Position : The position at which the URL ranks in Google search.
Estimated Number of Visits : The approximate traffic that a web page receives for a keyword.
For example, your competitor is ranked # 1 for survival. Ranked first, it receives approximately 395 visitors per month for this request. So, if you manage to overtake it, you know what type of traffic to expect.

This works for any niche and helps reveal hidden keywords that will improve your site's rankings.

Improving the performance of lower ranked keywords

If you find your web page on the second page of the SERPs, how do you rank it up to the first page on Google?

You can use the skyscraper method popularized by Brian Dean of Backlinko.

Find a post or article that is already ranking, improve it, and promote it everywhere. In his case, this resulted in a 457% increase in organic traffic.

If you would like to do this for your topic (for example, Small Business Outsourcing Guide), follow these simple steps:

Explore the topic in detail, including research.
Define your targeting keywords using the strategies I've shared with you in this post.
Write a more detailed post (longer, more accurate, and actionable).
Provide links to reputable blogs that are good at outsourcing.
Come up with a powerful and intriguing headline.

For example, if your first title is like this:

Small Business Outsourcing Guide

You can improve it like this:

The X Ways to Outsource Can Revolutionize Your Small Business

Contact the blog owners you mentioned in your post and ask them to mention you. Hopefully you get a response from several reputable sites that link to you.

Use keyword analysis to improve your articles

Let's be clear on one thing.

There is no optimal ratio for placing keywords in an article.

However, it is very important to know the correct keywords for targeting. This is the foundation of keyword analysis.

Wordstream defines keyword analysis as follows:

“This is the starting point and cornerstone of search engine marketing campaigns. By understanding what queries your trained site visitors are driving into search engines, marketers can better optimize landing pages for higher conversion rates. "

Until you know the queries that trained visitors enter into Google, it will be difficult for you to improve your rankings and conversion rates.

At this point, you know how to do keyword analysis. This is the easy part. The tricky part is knowing which keywords are driving organic traffic .

Since Google Analytics has refreshed and stopped providing keyword information, information has become difficult to find. This guide to finding hidden keywords will help you recover some data. But these days, it's impossible to fully understand which keywords are driving organic traffic.

You really need to pay attention to popular keywords, the queries your competitors are ranking for, and Google's "Along with ... are also looking for" suggestions.

Use this information to write SEO content that matches the user's intent (remember that?). This will improve the ranking of your pages on Google.

How to place targeted keywords in the text?

Let's say you want to write an in-depth review of The Best Golf Clubs for Seniors. Here are some names you can use:

Top 10 best golf clubs for seniors
Buyer's Guide: The Best Golf Clubs for Seniors
The best golf clubs for seniors ー the complete guide
The introduction can start like this:

“There are several senior golf clubs on the market. But choosing the right option for you is the most difficult thing. If you read this guide from start to finish, you will find out which are the best golf clubs for seniors that are affordable and reliable. "

Or you can start by asking:

“Are you looking for the best golf clubs for seniors ? This article will not only introduce you to golf clubs, but also show you how to use them to improve your golfing skills and provide practical advice on how to get a huge discount on your purchase. "

Can you see how I put the key phrase in the first paragraph without giving the impression of spam?

As I said earlier, target a specific keyword naturally ー don't try to make it look natural.

Step # 7: Improve Your Google Ranking with Internal SEO Optimization
Now that you know what keywords you want to target ー and should target to maximize performance, you are ready to make meaningful internal SEO changes.

Let's take a look at a few key points.

Optimize your title tags

Title tags continue to play an important role in determining website performance.

Make sure each title tag is descriptive, unique, and consistent with your target keywords.

Avoid using the same keywords and title tags over and over. Thus, you diversify the possibilities, while avoiding competition with your own pages.

Let's say you have an online store. A good formula for your product pages might be:

[Product name] ー [Product category] | [Brand Name]

Like this:

Leave-in Conditioner for Curly Hair ー Hair Care | Diana's DIY

Here are some more tips for optimizing your title tags:

Use vertical bars (|) and dashes (ー) between terms to maximize space.
Avoid headings written in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. They are awful.
Never leave the default title tags such as Product Page or Home. They make Google think you have duplicate content, and they are also not very interesting to users looking for specific information.
Prioritize the most important and unique keywords.
Don't overload keywords. Google increasingly values relevant, contextually relevant natural strings over unnatural or drawn keyword phrases.
Introduce potential visitors to Google ー Title tags can increase traffic and conversions or destroy them.
Keep in mind that Google shows about 60 characters in SERPs, but don't break off the headline if it's longer but matches the content of the page. The snippet title displayed by Google may be dynamic depending on the search query.

So in the end, you can win by making the title more descriptive.

In addition, desktop snippet titles are limited to pixel width, and mobile titles are generally longer.

Here's a Hobo Web example :

In the image above, Google is displaying as many characters as possible from the start. But in the image below, Google trims the middle of the title to display the search term “hobo” at the end, and thus show the relevance to the user's request.

While meta descriptions have little (if any) impact on rankings, they still serve an important purpose in helping to define search snippets and adding an additional factor of uniqueness. This, in turn, can affect click-through rates from search results.

Use Schema Markup (also known as structured data markup)

Schema markup can be thought of as additional "shortcuts" to information that tell Google what your content means. For example, suppose my name appears in an article, so Google displays it in the SERPs.

But if I use the correct schema, applying it to my name in the HTML of the article, I can tell Google that I am the author of the article, and not just another term in a sea of indistinguishable words.

Not only does markup help Google understand your site, it also has a significant impact on driving traffic.

The diagram helps provide users with more relevant information in a visually organized and aesthetic manner.

In addition, Featured Snippets are more likely to appear in mobile search results, which, as we said, are more common in the US than desktop searches.

The Google Structured Data Markup Wizard is a great tool for marking up data on your site.

You can use schema tags to identify different types of search information, including:

Local businesses
Software applications

Create a sitemap to improve your Google rankings

A sitemap provides search engines with information about how your site's content is organized.

This way, when Googlebot reads a file, it can crawl your content more intelligently. This helps make it more affordable to rank in search results.

Sitemaps also provide valuable metadata about the pages on your site, such as when they were last updated, how often you make changes, and how the page relates to other pages on the site.

You can use , a simple sitemap generator. If you are using WordPress, there are also several sitemap generating plugins. H To download the site map file, place it in the root folder of the site's domain and add the URL-address of a site map in your account Google Search Console.

Now that we've covered some of the key factors in internal SEO, it's time to discuss how to take your brand from good to great with unique, strategic and targeted content.

Step # 8: Use Keywords to Create Better Content
While I've already touched on keyword analysis and placement a bit, in this section we'll take a closer look at using whatever keywords you find.

Unfortunately, many people misunderstand the purpose of keyword analysis and placement.

Even before Google released the first Panda update , the best marketers on the search network knew that quality, valuable, and useful content should target a specific group of people.

Optimize content for informational keywords and improve search rankings by creating detailed, noteworthy content. Complete it with detailed meta descriptions and title tags.

This process attracts enthusiastic fans who share your content on social media, and it naturally collects relevant and authoritative links.

If you want to write noteworthy and detailed content, follow the tutorial below.

Use data-driven articles

According to ConversionXL , a data driven approach can increase your traffic.

Back up the facts with accurate data so that people see your content as authoritative and share it on social media, expanding the organic reach of your post . This post on how to create and promote infographics is an example of data driven content.

The given resources below will help you to enrich the content accurate data (in English..) :

Statistics: release calendar
Try to include more recent statistics ー ideally so that the data is less than three years old.

You can even target content very narrowly. For example, if a blogger is experimenting with niche marketing, take it a step further and try niche marketing with an old domain name, and then describe the result.

Tell stories

Stories can captivate audiences, evoke emotion, and increase conversion rates.

Here's how to tell a story that engages your audience:

Start with something unique: a unique message that resonates with your audience. Ideally, this should be related to people's questions or pain points.

Add your own experience: it's called history for a good reason. Use your own experiences (good or bad) as part of the story. No lies!

John Morrow used this internal content SEO optimization technique to grow his blog audience to 1,740 loyal subscribers in just seven days.

Add a call to action (CTA): every story must have an end. Once you grab the attention of your readers, they will wait for you to share a solution to the problem. At the end of the day, your story should solve the problem, not make it worse.

Use a link or call to action button to lead people to the funnel and convert them. Company MatchOffice increased the conversion rate to 14.79% by changing the text of the call.

Write titles that people want to share

Google has made many ranking changes, but one element remains decisive ー the title.

"If you write a headline that you want to share, nothing can prevent the material from being clicked, read, and your real fans ー share it."

Pip Laha of ConversionXL increased the conversion rate by changing the word "today" to "now" in the headline. It also helped him increase sales by 332%.

The headlines really grab attention.

Even if your webpage is ranked # 1 on Google for content, that doesn't mean you'll get the most clicks.

Internal SEO helps, but the title can convert impressions into clicks.

Let's run a search for "how to outsource" . Note that the title with the highest click-through rate is at position # 2.

10 Steps to Successfully Outsource Your Online Business is a great example of a site that uses headlines that you want to share and thereby increase conversions.

I used Buzzsumo to parse Upworthy headlines. See how many shares the first article collected.

In fig. 9 out of 10 Americans are wrong about this mind-boggling fact.

If I wanted to create a better title for my content, here's what I would do:

Add numbers: Upworthy's Facebook article has been shared over 1.6 million times because of the number in the headline. If the headline were “Americans are completely wrong about this mind-boggling fact,” I'm sure the total number of social media shares would be less.

Here are some more examples. When I wrote this article, the headlines listed below were in the top 10 Google for relevant keywords. But a simple improvement will lead to an increase in click-through rates.

Arouse curiosity: Curiosity will get people to click on your headline, but use this tactic carefully and keep your headline's promise to deliver quality information.

For example, if the title is like this:

7 top bodybuilding secrets you didn't know about

Make sure you reveal the "7" secrets, and ideally what you reveal should be new or unique.

Create a multimedia experience

While regular blogging is important, don't stop there.

Hone your keywords to find out what questions brought visitors to your site. Then use different types of content to answer these questions, for example:

Electronic books
Automatic series of letters
Animated GIFs

AWARENESS. White paper, e-book, recruitment, tip sheet, checklist, video tutorial, educational webinar.

GRADE. Product webinar, case study, example, FAQ, datasheet, demo video.

PURCHASE. Free Trial, Live Demo, Consultation, Evaluation, Coupon.

Remove duplicate content

Use tools such ka to Copyscape , SiteLiner and Screaming Frog, not to be repeated.

Random duplicate content won't hurt your rankings, but by not repeating yourself, you'll be doing yourself a favor and show Google that each piece is original, relevant, and useful.

You have great, optimized content that includes informative and commercial keywords and tells a story that your audience loves. Now is the time to create links that will help improve your Google rankings.

Step # 9. Build links correctly
Earlier, I showed you how to analyze links to your site using SEOprofiler. Here's another analysis I did for the Business Insider site .

Note that it shows different types of anchor text for inbound links.

This is exactly what you need for proper link building and ranking in Google.

Here are several ways to do this and the types of links you need.

Link with anchor text (links in the text) . Anchor text links are simple links that appear within the text. See example below ...

I've found that placing links on the first screen of a page can increase conversion rates.

Anchor text linking strategy is mainly used when you want to rank for a specific keyword.

You can use the target keyword as the anchor text, but to be on the safe side and avoid search engine penalties, dilute the link text with generic keywords. best seo

For example, if your main keyword phrase is digital camera reviews, when linking from another site, use a natural link: find the best digital camera reviews, the best digital camera brands, and more.

Good dilution of the link text is a competent internal SEO optimization.

Internal links. External links (that is, links from other sites to yours) are important, but internal links are important too. Be sure to link to important internal pages using optimized anchor text when it makes sense.

Editorial links. Creating useful content and distributing it through social media naturally leads to valuable inbound links.

A good example is Brian Dean's 200 ranking factors post . It has been quoted many times.

In fig. "Natural" editorial links Links that authors naturally cite on sites and pages when they want to link to your content or company. These links require little SEO action other than to create valuable material (outstanding content) and the ability to educate the audience about it.

For Google, what other people say about you is much more important and relevant than what you say about yourself to improve your Google rankings.

Over the years, I have created thousands of diverse, data-driven, useful blog posts.

If you're looking for anything related to content marketing, Quick Sprout and appear in the SERPs. This means I get a lot of editorial links.

Copyblogger links to helpful and relevant resource articles that foster the engagement their audience already has.

I firmly believe that the site owners did nothing to obtain these editorial links.

They just earned links because of the usefulness of their content. Focus on top-notch content if you want links that will improve the ranking of your web pages .

Scale link building . Link diversity is the best way to generate Google-friendly links and improve your Google rankings while avoiding fines.

Old methods like directory submissions, forum ads, wikis, and even guest blogs and press releases don't work and also put you at risk of being fined by Google.

To get a diverse inbound link profile, write content that gets links from local, regional, and international sites related to your own.

You will then create a natural backlink profile with natural targeted internal SEO that will withstand whatever Google throws up.

The key to ranking on Google ー kind of a mystery. The key to achieving higher rankings on Google without penalties is to be useful and memorable.
